Just another stormy day!
Ever have a day, week, or even the start of a new year that feels like the store that has no end? So far 2017, has had just that feeling for me – the never ending black clouded, rolling thunder of a storm.
Recently, I was sitting in the doctor’s office, a familiar place of late, after a back injury from a horse(s), and just know I am not going to be getting any good news. Which it wasn’t!
While waiting in the exam room, all the walls had different stencils with this quote:
“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass,
It’s about learning to dance in the rain.”
Over and over, I read this quote, even looked it up on my phone while I was waiting for the doctor to come in. The quote is credited to anonymous. I needed anonymous that day
My storm was confirmed and it felt like a hurricane. My injuries were bad enough the doctor did not advise me to make a trip to Europe where I was to judge horse shows the very next week. Plus, I would need about 12 weeks of rehabilitation and rest, before even considering returning to my normal schedule. And, if the rehabilitation did not improve my injuries, then more tests and would be needed, and I might have to consider surgery, which would put me on hold for a lot longer.
On my drive hope, I thought about the quote and allowed the words to really sink in. Dancing in the rain was not high on my list, at that moment, but thinking about storms and relating it to life, one thought kept creeping into my mind. There is always a rainbow after the storm. The rainbow is always the sign of renewal and makes you smile as the colors and its beauty are shared with nature, for all to see. The rainbow gives one hope and even over shadows whatever the storm has brought with it.
I needed that hope of renewal, that during this needed time of rehabilitation, there could be the discovery of new avenues to be explored for other career opportunities or directions in life. Make life/health changes, review WIPs/projects and even see where life might lead without all the hustling of my normal schedule.
Life has many paths, crossroads, and storms put in front of you to force you to make choices/changes. Sometimes all one can do is dance in the rain, look for the rainbow, but always enjoy life’s journey!
